Shared Backstory

Gray Hands Assignment to Harcourt

Caelum Vaelor and Leeanya Leora arrived in Harcourt nearly a year ago—Gray Hands apprentices on what was supposed to be a safe, uneventful two-year field rotation. The Blackstaff had assigned them here precisely because nothing ever happened in Harcourt: a quiet trade city where Caelum could bury himself in the archives as a meticulous clerk, and Leeanya could indulge her fascination with precision mechanisms under the guise of a clockmaker's apprentice.

Both showed early promise back in Waterdeep—Caelum with uncanny instincts and improbable luck, Leeanya with a strange affinity for ordered patterns and improbable timing—but neither had truly awakened to the deeper powers stirring beneath the surface.

Life here has been peaceful, almost dull, allowing their talents to simmer quietly as they settle into the rhythm of local work and local gossip. But subtle signs are beginning to surface—coincidences that shouldn't be possible, instincts that come too quickly, gears that turn just a little too smoothly.

Their assignment was meant to be boring. Harcourt was the 'safe' deployment. And yet, as their latent gifts begin their slow, unmistakable climb toward awakening, it feels more and more like something in this city has been waiting for them.

Key Details: - In Harcourt for nearly a year (on a two-year rotation) - Both from Waterdeep, trained by the Gray Hands - Sent to Harcourt specifically because it was supposed to be safe/boring - Have established lives and routines in the city - Powers are just now beginning to awaken (fits "newly awakened heroes" theme) - Neither has fully manifested their class abilities yet
